Lanier LF311 Printer Review
The Lanier LF311 is first and foremost a laser fax machine and simple copier, but users have the option of upgrading it for network printing for a well-rounded device. It has a maximum output speed of only 15 pages per minute, however, so busy offices might find it to be slow. Savings on Lanier LF311 printer toner are a significant advantage over other models in its class.
Despite a compact design, the unit has a fairly roomy control panel that makes it easy to control fax features. A backlit LCD screen is easy to read, even in low lighting, and the button layout includes a full number pad and 30 one-touch dialing keys for quick access to frequently used numbers. Up to 99 copies can be made from a single original. The machine itself measures 16.2x17.6x19.4 inches, and weighs 40.8 pounds.
The system includes a memory backup feature that can save incoming faxes for later printing when the machine encounters an error or runs out of paper or Lanier LF311 toner. With only a single 250-sheet main paper tray and a 100-sheet bypass tray, it is best suited to small offices, but an extra 500-sheet tray can be added as well.
Unlike the average small office machine with expensive toners, Lanier LF311 toner cartridges are very affordable. Combining their low price with an estimated yield of 6,000 pages each, Lanier LF311 toner cartridges offer a lower cost per page than expected, and the toners are quick and easy to replace.
The faxing features of the LF311 are excellent, and its copying function is adequate for the average user. Those considering upgrading to network printing should consider its slow maximum output speeds, as it may be a better idea to choose a multifunction model with faster speeds and a better feature set.
