Lanier LF125M Printer Review
For the small office looking to add fax machine, the Lanier LF125m is a pretty solid choice. Those expecting a true multifunction laser printer may find its print, scan, and copy features lacking, but it does an adequate job for light-duty tasks. It can print and copy at speeds of up to 17 pages per minute, and the cost of Lanier LF125m printer toner can be affordable when using compatible versions.
Faxing is easily the most robust function of the LF125m, with Super G3 transmission speeds that can send a page in as little as 3 seconds. It can also save 20 quick dial and 80 speed dial numbers for quick faxing to frequent locations. A battery backup can keep the machine going for up to 72 hours during a power outage.
The main limitation of the device is that is includes only a 20-page automatic document feeder. Without a flatbed scanner, the types and sizes of media that can be copied is very limited. It is also limited in quality, as it can only scan at up to 200 dpi and copy at 300 dpi, which will degrade the output quality somewhat compared to more advanced machines.
Compact laser devices often have the problem of expensive replacement toners. It is true that the OEM versions of Lanier LF125m toner cartridges are a bit pricey. Compatible versions of Lanier LF125m toner cartridges, however, can be found for a fraction of the cost, and they have a page yield of up to 3,000 pages, which translates to a low cost per page.
The LF125m offers fairly advanced faxing capabilities, but only basic printing, scanning, and copying. Buyers who want it primarily as a fax machine will find its compact design, low operating costs, and fast transmission speeds to be very appealing, and the added functions will be a nice bonus.
