With a print speed of up to 28 pages per minute, the Lanier LD528 will be able to keep up with the steady demands of an average large office, but it is the other features that make it a competitive option in a crowded market. Its purchase price is within the standard range of this class of units, but its affordability comes from the small cost per page provided by the Lanier LD528 toner cartridges.

Since it is a monochrome machine, only black printer toner is held in each Lanier LD528 toner cartridge. Offices that require the ability to print in color should look elsewhere. Even in black-and-white, a maximum resolution of 2400x600 dpi can be produced using the Lanier LD528 toner and advanced laser technology that ensures crisp, clear lines.

The trays that are included can hold as many as 1,050 sheets of standard paper while the bypass tray supports a smaller capacity of specialty media such as envelopes and transparencies. An automatic reversing document feeder can also be added, which will connect to the top of the unit and help to continuously process documents with many pages through the scanner in sequence.

In comparison to a similar model, the Lanier LD425, the LD528 offers more memory at 768 MB and finishing options, including sorting and stapling. The device also includes a 40 GB hard drive, which is missing from some competing models. The affordable maintenance costs of the toners keep the LD528 in contention though.
