Konica-Minolta C554 Printer Review

The Konica-Minolta bizhub C554 is a multifunction color laser printer with very fast speeds and a wide array of features, but is upgradeability leaves a lot of room for future expansion as well. It can print at speeds of up to 55 pages per minute, has a tablet-like 9-inch touchscreen display, and uses high-capacity bizhub C554 printer toner supplies.

The design of the C554 (also referred to as the C554e) is fairly straightforward, but a bit on the bulky side. The unit measures 36.3x24.2x27 inches, and weighs around 220 pounds, which does include the four Konica-Minolta C554 toner supplies. Even at such a size, however, the starting paper capacity is only 1,000 sheets, divided between two 500-sheet drawers. Thankfully, this can be expanded to a maximum of 6,650 sheets with optional upgrades installed.

The standard document feeder holds up to 100 sheets at a time for fast scanning, but an optional dual scanner system can be installed, which can scan up to 160 originals per minute. Users can also store scanned documents on the included 250 GB hard drive, and files are easy to access from the control panel, and can also be easily shared via email, sent to an FTP server, or saved to a network folder.

Most color laser models have the problem of expensive toners, and the cost of Konica-Minolta C554 toner cartridges is no exception. The saving grace is that bizhub C554 toner cartridges have yields of 26,000 to 27,000 pages each, which helps keep the cost per page affordable.

The C554 may appeal most to office users making a switch to digital documents, thanks to its excellent scanning capabilities. Still, its speed and sharp output quality will have broader appeal, as long as buyers can handle the cost of Konica-Minolta C554 toner supplies.
