Konica-Minolta 1380MF Printer Review
The Konica Minolta PagePro 1380MF is a multifunction monochrome laser printer designed for the home or small office user. It has fast printing speeds and well-designed copy and scan functions. However, for color options, printers that use magenta, yellow and cyan, such as HP CE251A toner.
The PagePro 1380MF is a little bulkier than the average dedicated laser printer, but is about as compact as a typical inkjet multifunction machine. The unit measures 14.5 inches by 19.4 inches by 18.3 inches (HWD) and weighs 27.1 pounds. This makes it light enough to be moved by no more than two people at once. Although the design of the 1380MF is very functional, its various paper trays seem to jut out at every angle, hurting its aesthetic appeal and making it look a bit like a medieval torture device. Still, most users do not buy a printer based on aesthetics. Cost per page is not bad, though, setting is apart from the competition such as Canon E40 toner.
What users buy a multifunction printer is for its multifunction features. The PagePro 1380MF can print, scan, and copy, but it does not have faxing capabilities. Each of the functions is very well-implemented. Scanning and copying can be done with either the flatbed scanner or the automatic document feeder, which can automatically scan or copy up to 50 sheets at a time. Scans can be sent directly to an application, if desired, but as the 1380MF does not have an ethernet port built-in, it does not support network scanning.
Input paper capacity is 250 sheets in its main tray, and there is a single-sheet bypass feeder for media types and sizes that can't be put in the main tray. Konica Minolta PagePro 1380MF toner cartridges have a capacity of 3,000 pages for a standard Konica Minolta 1380MF toner cartridge, and 6,000 pages for the high-yield Konica Minolta 1380Mf toner cartridge, which is still less than Brother TN580 toner. The printer ships with a disappointing 1,500 page starter Konica Minolta PagePro 1380MF cartridge. Print quality is excellent. Text is especially sharp and detailed, and small fonts are very sharp and readable. Print speed is snappy, at around 21 pages per minute.
Overall, the Konica Minolta PagePro 1380MF offers great quality and speed combined with solid copying and scanning. Other than poor aesthetics, there is little to complain about.
