The Kodak PM 100 is certainly one of the more basic inkjet photo printers in its class, but it still provides solid output quality in a fairly compact design. Connection options are limited, and colors can be a little dull, but the low cost of Kodak 100 printer ink supplies could be enough to sway some buyers.
One of the earliest models to include memory card slots on its front control panel, the 100 still only supports CompactFlash and SmartMedia formats. This leaves out popular options like SD, and the basic monochrome LCD screen doesn't allow for previewing images, so this functionality is limited overall.
The other major limitation is the inclusion of a parallel port only, so a USB adapter will be needed for most users. Still, the output quality is generally impressive, with a resolution of 1200x1200 providing good photo quality and sharp text. Photos are slow to print, however, as a 4x6-inch photo can take as much as 6 minutes to finish printing, and each uses a fair amount of PM 100 printer ink.
The good news is that Kodak 100 ink cartridges share their design with other models, and are fairly inexpensive. The bad news is that only one PM 100 ink cartridge can be installed at one time. This means swapping the color Kodak 100 ink supply for black when printing text, then switching back for photos. Otherwise, costs get very high very quickly.
The PM 100 is a decent inkjet printer for very basic printing needs, but its design has a few too many flaws to make it easy to use, and slow print speeds are a big hinderance. Despite its low operating costs and decent photo output quality, buyers will be better off finding a model with a bit more speed and better connection options.
