The Kodak EasyShare 5500 takes some of the best features of other inkjet printers in its line, and adds faxing capabilities and an automatic document feeder (ADF) to make it more useful and more efficient. The price is still very affordable, and print speeds are fast, at up to 32 pages per minute for black and 22 pages per minute for color. Printer ink costs are affordable, thanks to the low price of Kodak 5500 ink.

The design of the 5500 includes some major improvements. The flatbed scanning surface is still included, but this model also includes an automatic document feeder for quickly and efficiently scanning, copying, or faxing multiple pages at once, and even makes scanning single pages much faster. The unit can also handle two-sided printing (duplexing) automatically. When combined with the low cost of EasyShare 5500 ink, it makes for a very cost-effective inkjet.

Speaking of printer ink, Kodak 5500 ink cartridges are some of the least expensive in its class, and are very easy to replace. The EasyShare 5500 ink cartridges can last for about 420 prints, ensuring that they won't need to be replaced often, and keeping the cost per page low as well. Cnet.com found the print quality of the 5500 to be decent, and liked the built-in memory card slots and USB ports. They also found running costs to be low. They disliked its slow printing and scanning speeds, however, and felt that the machine tries to do too many things, and ends up suffering in quality.
