IBM 12 Printer Review
On the surface, the IBM Infoprint 12 looks like a fairly basic laser printer, but it has extra features like networking and a 1200 dpi printing engine that make it stand out from the competition. It has a fast 12 pages per minute printing speed and multiple connection options, and printer toner costs are kept low by the affordable price of IBM 12 toner.
With many low-cost printers, numerous features seem to be sacrificed to achieve such a low price. This does not seem to be the case with the 12, which not only has solid print speeds, but can also print at resolutions up to 1200 dpi, which provides sharp print quality, especially when it comes to text. One unexpected feature for an entry-level model is the option to add an ethernet port for connecting and sharing directly across a network. First page out time is as low as 14 seconds, and the model is rated for a monthly volume of up to 20,000 pages.
Replacing toners is very easy, using the front access panel, and IBM 12 toner cartridges are just as affordable as the printer itself. Infoprint 12 toner cartridges have a capacity of 6,000 pages to achieve a very low cost per page, and compatible Infoprint 12 toner cartridges can be purchased at a fraction of the cost of OEM versions, for even more savings.
PCWorld listed the IBM 12 in its Top 10 laser printers list, praising its affordable price and fast speeds. They recommended it for almost any small office.
The 12 is certainly designed with budget-conscious buyers in mind, but it is nice to see that it doesn't sacrifice other aspects in the process. Its solid speeds, sharp output quality, and affordable IBM 12 toner combine to make it a great value.
