HP X451dn Printer Review

With a sharp design that conserves space, the HP OfficeJet Pro X451dn inkjet printer delivers fast speeds of up to 55 pages per minute and high-resolution prints that will fit in a professional environment. At the same time, its low purchase price and inexpensive HP X451dn printer ink can be a significant savings over a larger laser machine.

The X451dn model name highlights the automatic duplexing and wired networking features, while a similar model, the X451dw, also includes wireless networking support. Both models include HP's ePrint platform, however, for easy mobile printing and even remote printing. It also has support for Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print for users who prefer the functionality of these platforms.

Despite its big performance, the X451dn isn't too bulky for small office spaces. It measures 15x20.3x15.7 inches, with a weight of only 37.8 pounds (including OfficeJet Pro X451dn ink supplies). The standard input paper capacity includes a 500-sheet main tray and 50-sheet multi-purpose tray for other types of media.

Although the X451dn is rated for up to 55 pages per minute, its ISO speeds of 36 pages per minute give a clearer picture of its average performance, which is still impressive. It has a first page out time of around 9.5 seconds for a quick response to a new task, and the maximum optimized resolution of 2400x1200 dpi should result in excellent quality every time.

The starter HP X451dn printer ink supplies included in the box have limited capacities, but standard OfficeJet Pro X451dn ink cartridges can last for up to 2,500 pages for each color and 3,000 pages for black. High-capacity HP X451dn ink cartridges bump it up even further to 6,600 pages for each color and 9,200 pages for black, to bring the cost per page down even more.

Inkjet models are becoming more common in the office, and models like the OfficeJet Pro X451dn are leading the way. With speed and quality equivalent to a laser model, but a lower purchase price, it is an excellent value.
