Popular HP Toner Printer Models

The name Hewlett Packard is almost synonymous with laser printers. But because Hewlett Packard is so we well-known, the naming confusion when trying to buy a Hewlett Packard toner cartridge is evident. For example, let's assume there are three different people who all want Hewlett Packard toner cartridges; one asks for an HP toner cartridge, another asks for a Hewlett Packard toner cartridge, and the third wants an HP LaserJet toner cartridge... the truth is they all want the same thing. HP = Hewlett Packard = "LaserJet". Hopefully, that alleviates the confusion in obtaining HP laser toner.

Hewlett Packard's history reads like a Silicon Valley stereotype. HP was founded in a garage in Palo Alto California by two guys: Bill Hewlett, and Dave Packard (go figure, right?) This is pretty much considered the birthplace of the previously-mentioned "Silicon Valley" – in fact, the garage (which still stands today at 367 Addison Avenue in Palo Alto) is considered a California historical landmark, and resides on the National Register of Historic Places. The two men met in 1935, and in 1937, created the company, with a coin-flip determining the name (we assume Hewlett won.)

The company was always involved in technology (their first product was a precision audio oscillator, of which some early models were sold to the Walt Disney Company), but was somewhat disjointed in direction for its early years. It wasn't until the computer age that it really took off (the Hewlett-Packard 9100A, circa 1968, is recognized as the first "personal" computer, although it was marketed more as a calculator.) In the 1980's, HP dived heavily into printers, and introduced some of the world's first "multifunction" machines. Thus, you started seeing printers with the name Hewlett Packard. Printer toner was obviously needed, so the company invested in that as well (like all printers, the toner is proprietary, so HP toner cartridges fit HP printers, and so on.)

Today, thanks to their generous product line, HP is the world's leading printer manufacturer. So pervasive are they that the naming conventions we mentioned earlier sometimes cause confusion (some people think "LaserJet" is actually a company name, so they look for a LaserJet Toner Cartridge, and they end up buying an HP toner cartridge. Which, again, is fine).
