HP T46 Printer Review

The market for all-in-one inkjet printers is large, but in the late 90s, the HP OfficeJet T46 was one of the few and one of the best. Offering scanning, copying, faxing and color printing, this versatile machine set the standard for business printers. Since, hundreds of multi-purpose units from various manufacturers have filled offices all over the world. More current models have newer technology and features that can no longer be lived without, such as networking. But the T46 was among the leaders of a printing revolution.

Connected by a phone line, an automatic answering machine is used to receive faxes. There are 10 one-touch speed dial options and the fax feature has a transmission time of 6 seconds per page. The tricolor HP T46 ink is used for all functions, providing users with the ability to copy and fax in color. The scanner can automatically send the scanned document in an email.

The two Officejet T46 ink cartridges can yield different resolutions for different services. The scanner and copier have a resolution of 300x300 dpi, while the printer can reach 600x600 dpi. Using exclusively black HP T46 ink, 11 pages per minute can be produced, while the color printer ink can only bang out about 8 pages per minute. The copier can produce only 2 pages per minute using the color OfficeJet T46 ink and 6 pages with black.

This OfficeJet has a recommended monthly duty cycle of 3,000 printed pages, while the HP T46 ink cartridges can yield 830 pages for black and 445 for color. Replacement printer ink is easy to find and affordable from third party vendor. Bottom line, there are more advanced inkjet printers available with faster speeds and higher resolutions. But the HP OfficeJet T46 is durable and reliable.
