HP PSC 1610 Printer Review

The HP PSC 1610 ink AIO is an attractive looking machine. It is a slim 12 lbs device that measures 17.3 x 11.2 x 6.8 in. The printer has a monthly duty cycle of 3000 sheets. The input tray can hold up to 100 sheets at a time. The maximum media size which this device can hold is 8.5 in x 24 in. You can feed this MFD cards, banners, labels, photo paper, plain paper, transparencies, and iron-on transfers. Printing, scanning, and copying can be carried out as standalone functions. External flash memory devices that are supported include SmartMedia, CompactFlash, Memory Stick, MultiMediaCard, SD Memory Card, and xD-Picture Card.

The HP 1610 ink cartridge printer can print up to 23 ppm for black and 18 ppm for color prints. The AIO is capable of achieving maximum print resolutions of up to 1200 dpi x 1200 dpi for monochrome and up to 4800 dpi x 1200 dpi for color prints. The HP 1610 inkjet cartridge AIO uses HP Vivera Inks. The 4-color scheme is achieved using HP 94 Black and HP 95 Tricolor ink cartridges.

The PC and Mac compatible PSC 1610 connects via USB. The 48-color flatbed scanner offers a maximum resolution of 4,800 dpi x 1,200 dpi scan. The OCR software is useful if you wish to edit scanned text. The ImageZone software lets you convert your images into stickers and posters. Although the machine features a backlit LCD, it cannot be used to preview photographs before printing, which is a bit of a downer. You can copy up to 50 sheets at a time with the digital copier. Document size can be altered in the range of 25% - 400%.

The HP PSC 1610 inkjet device is meant for home users; it is not a fast device but its text and photo prints, while not being business class, are good. It lacks a fax, ADF, duplexing, and networking. However, other features such as a 32-character backlit LCD and PictBridge compatibility combined with good color graphics output are reason enough to interest the amateur photographer and occasional home user.
