The HP PSC 1504 is an excellent photo inkjet printer and all-in-one device, and it has some nice extras that make its copying and scanning functions very easy to use. Options for HP PSC 1504 printer ink can make it affordable to operate, and print and copy speeds are rated at a maximum of 20 pages per minute for black and 15 pages per minute for color in draft mode.

The PSC 1504 is designed for use by an individual, with a USB port for a direct connection to a PC. Those wishing for network sharing will be disappointed, but for such a low price, it's hard to complain. Dimensions are 6.4x17.1x11.4 inches, though its weight of 11 pounds is a bit heavier than some home models. The front of the device includes a PictBridge port and media card slots for easier integration with cameras and other devices.

The control panel is pretty basic, and doesn't include a color screen for previewing images. Instead, users can utilize the included software for browsing, previewing, and editing. Standalone copying is possible, which is very convenient. Although the unit doesn't include a document feeder (ADF), the flatbed scanner has a removable cover that provides more flexibility and can speed up the scanning process.

The two standard HP PSC 1504 ink cartridges (black and tricolor) have capacities of 220 pages each. A high-capacity color HP PSC 1504 ink cartridge can be had for only a little more, for those who do a lot of photo or color printing. An optional photo color supply can be used for an enhanced color palette, but this adds to the overall expense of HP PSC 1504 printer ink, and most users probably won't notice the difference.

The lack of an ADF makes it slightly less functional, but the HP PSC 1504 strikes a good balance of features and cost. Its low price is impressive, and photo and text quality are excellent.
