The purchase price of the HP Photosmart D5400 is a little higher than other inkjet models in its class, but it offers better output quality and a bit more speed, making it worth consideration. It includes features like memory card slots, but still relies heavily on software, as its small screen is very limited in functionality. High-capacity HP D5400 printer ink supplies can keep costs down, however.

One of the best attributes of this photo printer is its versatile media handling. It can accept specialty media like CDs and DVDs, with a special caddy for easy feeding. It also includes a special photo tray that can load sizes up to 5x7 inches. The main tray holds up to 125 pages of standard paper as well, though it doesn't support legal size paper, as some competing models do.

The size of the D5400 is on the large side of average, with a footprint of 15.2x18 inches that could make it a little tough to squeeze onto some desk surfaces. Even with the Photosmart D5400 printer ink installed, though, it still weighs just 12.8 pounds, so moving it around is quite simple.
