There are times when users need to take an inkjet printer to a location outside the home, and the HP Photosmart 370 is designed for exactly this situation. This compact photo printer is very portable, and produces 4x6-inch photos in as little as 60 seconds. Users have plenty of options for getting photos into the machine, and prices for HP 370 printer ink aren't as high as those of some other compact models.

The 370 is designed to work independently of a computer, though it can connect to a PC or Mac via USB cable. Memory card slots on the front of the device, as well as a PictBridge USB port give users several ways of getting photos loaded onto the device. Once loaded, the 2.5-inch color LCD provides a great way to preview, edit, and print photos, and it even flips up for a better viewing angle.

With all of its benefits, there are a few drawbacks as well. Reviewers noted a color cast on some photos, and a bit of graininess. The unit's compact design also comes with limitations, as it can only handle 4x6-inch prints. The photo paper and Photosmart 370 printer ink supplies are both easy to replace, however.

The inkjet system uses only one tricolor HP 370 ink cartridge, which sometimes has the disadvantage of lighter blacks in photos. Still, each standard Photosmart 370 ink cartridge has a yield of around 330 pages, and high-capacity versions offer up to 560 pages. A photo gray HP 370 ink supply can be used for black-and-white photos.

The Photosmart 370 will hold some appeal for users who want quick and easy 4x6-inch photos with little fuss, or those who want some portability. Otherwise, its limitations may make a lot of buyers opt for a full-size machine with a better feature set.
