HP P1566 Printer Review

The HP LaserJet P1566 is a laser printer fit for a home or small office. This Windows and Mac compatible monochrome printing unit has a monthly duty cycle of 8,000 pages; however, HP's recommended duty cycle is 2000 pages each month. With 8 MB of standard memory, it has no upgradable options. It connects via high-speed USB, and it does come with an optional wireless printer server. The speeds and quality of the P1566 are decent, but they are definitely nothing special. What is special, though, is the low price of HP P1566 toner cartridges.

When it comes to paper handling, it has one standard input and output paper tray. It can hold 250 sheets in its input try, and up to 150 sheets in its output tray. Most sizes of paper are accepted, and plain paper, photo paper, vellum paper, rough paper, labels, envelopes, cardstock, postcards and transparencies are all supported. It is a sheet fed unit, and double-sided printing is not offered on the P1566, like it is on many newer models. The maximum that can be printed per minute is 22 pages, which isn't too shabby.

It only weighs 14.3 pounds, so it won't be too heavy to lift. It has dimensions of 12.2x9.6x9.7 inches, so it won't make a big footprint either.

Only one LaserJet P1566 toner cartridge is needed for printing, and it is filled with black printer toner. The HP P1566 toner may look pricey, but the cost per page using these toners is actually pretty reasonable.

One thing many do not know is that most toners come in remanufactured versions as well. The remanufactured HP P1566 toner cost only a fraction of the price of the OEM printer toner. The remanufactured versions not only make the using LaserJet P1566 toner affordable, but it also makes it economical.

For such a compact machine, the HP LaserJet P1566 provides quick speeds of 22 pages per minute, and sharp output quality, with an enhanced resolution of 1200 dpi. It lacks networking, with only a USB port for connection, but its output tray holds a solid 250 sheets.

Although the model shown differs slightly in color, the process is the same.

Start removing the empty HP P1566 toner cartridge by lifting from the front to raise the cartridge door. Look for the handle on the cartridge, and pull it up and forward to remove it.

Get the new LaserJet P1566 cartridge ready by taking it out of its box and packing materials, then removing it from the bag. Before you remove the tape strip, rock the cartridge several times to distribute the toner.

Loop one finger inside the tape at one end, then pull it firmly until the entire tape strip is removed. The black paper should be pulled in the direction of the arrows right before installation.

Place the new P1566 cartridge into the printer’s opening, making sure it aligns with the tracks on each side, then lower it down. Press the cartridge down to lock it into place, then lower the cartridge door.

You are now ready to resume printing with your HP LaserJet P1566 printer.
