HP P1505 Printer Review

The HP LaserJet P1505 is a monochrome laser printer designed for the home or personal user. It has a compact frame, fast speeds, and great quality for the price. HP toner cartridges are also easily replaced. Lack of a printed manual can be a minor annoyance.

The HP P1505 is extremely compact, measuring 8.9 inches by 14.9 inches by 9.6 inches (HWD) and weighing only 12.9 pounds. It comes in only a little larger than many inkjet printers, and can fit into fairly tight spaces in a home or small office. It has a low monthly duty cycle of 8,000 pages, so it is not suited to high-volume printing, but for the light user, it makes a great choice.

Paper capacity is a little larger than one would expect from such a compact printer. It can hold 250 sheets in its main tray, and even has a 10-sheet multipurpose tray. This is a real bonus for users who occasionally need to print on a different type of paper, but don't want to have to unload the standard paper. The P1505 comes with only 2 MB of RAM, which should be enough for a single user, and even a few shared users, but networking the P1505 among a small office may cause some slowdowns due to its limited memory. The P1505 doesn't include a built-in ethernet port, but there is a print server upgrade available. A laser toner cartridge is included with the printer.

The one minor drawback to the LaserJet P1505 is that the manual and all support documents are located on the disc. While this is a very 'green' way to package the printer, many users may miss the manual. Print speed is very fast for the price, at 24 pages per minute. Print quality is excellent across the board. Text is very sharp, and even graphics prints are very impressive.

Overall, the HP LaserJet P1505 has a lot to offer in a compact package at a very affordable price for the printer and printer toner cartridges. With only a few minor annoyances to speak of, it is an excellent choice for a personal or small office printer.
