The HP OfficeJet 5740 e-All-in-One inkjet printer is a bit of a step up to more office-centric features, but it doesn't come with a high price tag. It can print up to 12 ISO pages per minute in black and 8 pages per minute in color, and uses relatively inexpensive HP 5740 printer ink supplies, which are also available in multiple sizes for better cost-effectiveness.

The 5740 is network-ready, with both a wired ethernet port and support for Wi-Fi connections for easy sharing. A USB port is also available for a simple direct connection, and a phone line is included for faxing at up to 33.6 Kbps. A better alternative to traditional faxing exists with the scan-to-email feature, however, which also saves on paper and OfficeJet 5740 printer ink supplies.

The machine has a height of 7.6 inches, and its footprint is only 17.9x16.1 inches, with a weight of just less than 17 pounds. This makes it easy to set up in a home or small office. For users with smartphones and tablets, the 5740 supports mobile printing and files can even be sent remotely by forwarding them to a unique email address.

With two sizes of HP 5740 ink cartridges to choose from, consumers can prioritize a lower upfront price or a better cost per page. The standard black supply yields 200 pages and the tricolor yields 165, but the high-capacity black OfficeJet 5740 ink cartridge yields 600 pages and the tricolor yields 415 pages. Either way, the prices for HP 5740 ink are fairly reasonable.

For buyers who want to step up from the average home inkjet model that might be a bit light on features, the OfficeJet 5740 brings a lot of the experience of a serious business machine. With its automatic document feeder and advanced features like mobile printing, it is affordable, easy to use, and intuitive.
