The HP LaserJet Pro MFP M521 multifunction laser printer can make a great solution for the small or medium office alike, with multiple models to choose from, and a fast output rate of 42 pages per minute. Lack of color might be a bit of a downside for some potential buyers, but it keeps the cost of HP MFP M521 printer toner more affordable.

The MFP M521 series includes multiple models, each with different features. The MFP M521dn includes duplexing and ethernet networking, the MFP M521dw adds Wi-Fi support to make wireless sharing simple, the MFP M521dx includes all of the above with more paper capacity, and the MFP M521z maxes out the paper supply at 1,600 sheets. The standard paper handling for most of the models includes a 100-sheet multipurpose tray and a 500-sheet main tray.

The first page out time of the MFP M521 is a bit on the slow side, at around 8 seconds, but still quite capable. A 50-sheet automatic document feeder make for fast scans, at up to 21 pages per minute, and color scanning is supported. The 3.5-inch touchscreen display is intuitive and easy to use, and integrates with the HP ePrint software for accessing templates and even websites directly for printing, as well as printing from mobile devices.

Two sizes of toners help to make operating costs affordable, while giving users more control. The standard HP MFP M521 toner cartridge can provide up to 6,000 pages. A larger high-capacity LaserJet Pro MFP M521 toner cartridge provides up to 12,500 pages and a lower cost per page. While OEM prices are reasonable, but compatible LaserJet Pro MFP M521 toner is available at a fraction of its cost.

One of the best aspects of the MFP M521 series is the flexibility of not only multiple models to choose from, but upgrade options for later expansion. Smaller offices can start with the basic configuration and build from there, benefitting from its features and speed right from the start. Savings on HP MFP M521 toner make it one of the more affordable solutions in its class.
