The HP LaserJet Pro 500 M570dn multifunction color laser printer has robust network management features, and comes with automatic duplexing built right in. For a bit of a steep price, buyers might expect a little more than its 31 pages per minute speed, and its first page out time of 10.5 seconds isn't overly impressive. Replacing four colors of HP M570dn toner can become expensive, but seeking compatible toners will help.

As part of the MFP M570 series, the MFP M570dn is the base model that includes duplexing and networking, while the MFP M570dw adds a Wi-Fi connection for sharing without cables. Both models support the full spectrum of printing, scanning, faxing, and copying.

The automatic duplexing feature can be very useful, as two-sided printing conserves paper, and multiple quality settings help to control the amount of LaserJet Pro 500 M570dn toner used on each page, prioritizing the highest quality over lower cost or vice versa. The machine can connect via USB or ethernet, and support Apple AirPrint as well as HP's own ePrint platform for printing from mobile devices.

The unit's design may be a little large for some smaller spaces, as it measures 21.2x20.3x19.7 inches and weighs around 90 pounds, including the HP M570dn printer toner supplies. Despite its somewhat bulky frame, its paper handling is a bit limited, with a 100-sheet multipurpose tray and two 250-sheet standard trays, though upgrades are available for more capacity. A 50-sheet automatic document feeder is included for scanning, copying and faxing.

Where the device really gets expensive is with its replacement HP M570dn toner cartridges. With four supplies, to replace, the LaserJet Pro 500 M570dn toner cartridges can take out a large chunk of an office budget. Thankfully, they do have large capacities of 5,500 to 6,000 pages, with a high-capacity black supply that can provide up to 11,000 pages.

The HP M570dn is an impressive device, but its moderate speeds and limited paper capacity make it difficult to justify its high price. A small office will likely find it too expensive to operate.
