HP M3035 Printer Review

The HP LaserJet M3035 is a multifunction monochrome laser printer designed for the medium or large office environment. It is fast, and produces excellent quality prints, but it is too bulky and expensive for small offices. A better choice for smaller offices would be the HP P1005 toner printer.

The design of the M3035 is a bit on the large side, but based on its target audience of medium and large office environments, this is not surprising. The unit measures 20.9 inches by 16.8 inches by 15.7 inches (HWD), and weighs around 60 pounds, so it will take at least two people to move it around. Its paper handling is impressive, with a 500 sheet standard tray and a 100 sheet multipurpose tray. Two additional trays can be added, with capacities of 500 sheets each, for a grand total of 1,600 sheets, which outshines the competing model, the Brother HL-5240 toner printer. The output tray can hold up to 250 sheets.

Scanning is a particularly robust feature. Scanning can be done with either the automatic document feeder or the flatbed scanning surface. The scanner can scan in color as well as monochrome. Scans can be sent to a number of locations, including email, a network folder, or even an FTP server.

A built-in ethernet port is included, in the form of an HP JetDirect card. This allows the printer to be connected directly to a network for sharing among multiple computers. The printer has both the capacity and speed to support a large number of users, and only a large office will likely have need for a printer at this price point and size.

Print speed is one of the HP M3035's best attributes. It can print at speeds up to 35 pages per minute, and has a first print out time of around 10 seconds, very appealing for a busy office. Print quality is excellent, both text and graphics. Text remains sharp and readable even at the smallest font sizes. If needing to add color to the prints, perhaps the LaserJet 2550 toner printer would be a better choice.

Overall, the HP LaserJet M3035 has a lot to offer a large high-volume office environment. Its speed and quality are both impressive, but its size and price put it out of range for most small offices.
