HP M3027 Printer Review

The HP LaserJet M3027 is a multifunction monochrome laser printer designed for the medium to large office environment. Many offices are looking to cut back on expenses, and one way to do that is to consolidate multiple pieces of equipment into one machine. Rather than having a separate fax machine, copy machine, and printer, it is more economical to consolidate these various functions into a single machine such as the HP M3027. If printing is the only function needed, models that use Lexmark 64035HA toner should work just fine.

The LaserJet M3027 manages to be relatively compact, despite its wide array of features. Measuring 21.7 inches by 20.6 inches by 19.1 inches and weighing around 60 pounds, it is considerably smaller and lighter than the average copy machine. It has a total of 600 sheets of paper capacity, with 500 sheets in its main drawer and 100 sheets in its multipurpose tray. It can also be expanded with an additional 500-sheet tray at any time.

The unit can print, scan, copy, and fax. Its scanner is capable of color scanning as well as monochrome, and scans can be sent to email for convenience. The HP M3027 is also a capable copy machine, able to make up to 1,000 copies of an original, and can reduce and enlarge from 54 to 400%. There is an automatic document feeder for automatically scanning documents for copying, faxing, or scanning, and also a flatbed scanner for documents that won't fit in the feeder. If all of these features are desired, but color capabilities are wanted too, something like the Konica Minolta C351 that uses Konica-Minolta 4053501 toner is a great place to look.

Print speed is a fast 27 pages per minute, with a first page out time of 10 seconds. Print quality is excellent. Text is sharp and defined, and graphics prints are above average for a laser printer, with few of the flaws normally found in laser graphics prints.

Overall, the HP LaserJet M3027 is a great choice for the large office looking to consolidate functions into one machine. It will almost certainly reduce toner and maintenance costs over multiple machines. Small office users will likely find it too expensive, and home users will find it too be much too large and advanced for their homes. Models that use Samsung SCX-D4200A toner will be a better fit.
