The HP LaserJet Pro M1216 has multiple functions, basic features and a design that speaks to the integrity of Hewlett-Packard.

Designed specifically to be used in a small office or a home office, the M1216 produces only black-and-white documents, though it can scan in color. The copier offers resizing options and dual-sided copying, but the highest duplicate resolution possible with the HP M1216 toner is 300 dpi. The flatbed scanner has an internal resolution of 1200 dpi, so documents saved to file will be clear. The fax machine has a 500-page memory, speed dials and a built-in phonebook application.

The black printer toner is held in a single HP M1216 toner cartridge that snaps into a slot beneath the top panel. Each LaserJet Pro M1216 toner cartridge has the capacity to yield up to 1,600 pages before users will need to find replacement toners. Fortunately, multiple vendors sell OEM and compatible HP M1216 toner, giving users an opportunity to save money if brand name is not important.

The casing is black and the style is compact but slightly outdated. An automatic document feeder sits on the top of the scanning bed and the control panel in on the front of the M1216, which has an LCD to display errors, progress and LaserJet Pro M1216 toner levels.
