However, for the consumers searching for a machine that is small enough in size to fit in limited spaces and has an array of capabilities but still is not too hard on the budget, the HP LaserJet Pro M1138 is worth taking a look at. This unit offers versatility in paper capacity and functionality, with the ability to scan, copy and print on different media types such as photo paper, labels, transparencies and envelopes.

Affordability doesn't stop at the upfront price as maintenance costs are low too since only a single HP M1138 toner cartridge is used. That is the upside of using a monochrome laser device, but it will be limiting as the types of project that can be created. Each LaserJet Pro M1138 toner cartridge has a maximum page yield of 1,600, which will equate to a low cost per page for occasional users.

The maximum quality that can be generated with the HP M1138 toner is 600x600 dpi, which is more than sufficient for an office. The internal resolution of the scanner is 1200x1200 dpi and can recognize color. Even so, when duplicates are made from a scan, the highest resolution the LaserJet Pro M1138 toner can create is 300x300 dpi.

Weighing about 15 pounds with a black, square frame that measures about 10x10x16 inches, the M1138 will fit on any desk or table and can easily be moved around. The only connection option is a USB port, but all operating systems are compatible. The input tray can hold 150 sheets and the output tray can hold 100 sheets.
