HP M651 Printer Review

The HP LaserJet Enterprise M651 color laser printer is designed for large offices, but it can also provide a medium-sized office with room to grow. With speeds of up to 42 pages per minute in both black and color, it is a solid performer, and its 4800 dpi optimized resolution provides excellent output quality. HP M651 printer toner supplies have a low cost per page, but are somewhat expensive to replace.

The M651 series includes three separate models to appeal to a variety of buyers. The M651n base model includes networking capabilities, the M651dn adds automatic duplexing for two-sided printing, and the M651xh adds all of the above, as well as extra paper capacity. While each model can be upgraded to a maximum of 3,100 sheets, purchasing the upgraded model upfront does save some money.

Advanced features for the M651 include its intuitive 4.3-inch touchscreen display and mobile printing options. The display provides easy access to features and menus, as well as paper and LaserJet Enterprise M651 toner levels, and flips up for a better viewing angle or down to stay out of the way when not in use. Mobile printing support allows users to print from their tablets or smartphones.

Replacement toners for all four colors will be a significant hit to the office budget, even though the HP M651 toner cartridges are actually cost-effective. Each color supply can provide a yield of around 15,000 pages, while the black LaserJet Enterprise M651 toner cartridge can provide either 11,500 or 20,500 pages, depending on whether buyers choose the high-capacity version. Compatible HP M651 toner is available from third-party suppliers for much less than OEM prices.

While the M651 will ultimately save a busy office money on supplies, its price tag may turn some buyers away. Still, its solid speeds and high-quality output make it worth a serious look.
