The HP LaserJet Enterprise 600 M601 is one of the newer laser models in the company's enterprise class. It can output up to 45 pages per minute, on a variety of media, and it has a quick first page out time of just 8.5 seconds. The maximum resolution is 1200 dpi, with a FastRes 1200 mode that emulates the highest resolution but prints more quickly and uses a bit less HP M601 printer toner for each page.

The design of the M601 could be described as boxy and a little bulky, but it gets the job done for a busy office environment. The unit measures 15.7x16.3x16.9 inches, with a weight of 52.1 pounds when the LaserJet Enterprise 600 M601 toner supply is installed.

The main paper tray can hole 500 sheets, and a 100-sheet multipurpose tray is included for alternative media types. The unit can be upgraded to a maximum of 1,100 sheets by adding a second 500-sheet paper tray, which paves the way for future expansion. A small 4-line LCD screen is all that is offered on the control panel, but 3 LED lights can also alert users when there is a printing error or when the paper or HP M601 toner needs to be replenished.

Replacement toners for the unit may seem a little pricey upfront, but HP M601 toner cartridges actually have a fairly low cost per page. The standard supply offers a yield of around 10,000 pages, while the high-capacity LaserJet Enterprise 600 M601 toner cartridge has an estimated yield of 24,000 pages.

For high-volume printing by a small or medium workgroup, it is tough to beat the HP M601, especially in its price range. With a great combination of speed and output quality, along with low operating costs, it is a cost-effective solution for busy office environments.
