Home users will appreciate the compact frame of the HP OfficeJet J4525 inkjet printer, as well as the fact that it can scan, copy, and fax. Its control panel is fairly limited, and HP J4525 printer ink can be a bit expensive, however. Print speeds are quick, at up to 28 pages per minute in black and 22 pages in color.

While the design of the J4525 is fairly compact, with measurements of 8.5x17.1x15.8, opening up the front trays while in use does give it a larger footprint that buyers should be aware of. The front orientation of both trays also means the paper must make a U-bend, which could lead to more frequent paper jams. The device can connect to a single computer via USB, or connect to a wireless network for easy sharing.

Both Windows and Mac systems are supported, for cross-platform compatibility. The simple control panel of the J4525 includes a 1-line LCD that is pretty limited in the information it can display, especially compared to models with a full-color screen, but this is a cost-saving compromise, and most users with basic needs will probably find it adequate. Print quality is very sharp, with a maximum resolution of 4800x1200 optimized dpi when using color OfficeJet J4525 printer ink.

One drawback is that the price of OEM HP J4525 ink cartridges can start to add up. Using the high-capacity versions of OfficeJet J4525 ink cartridges can help to bring the cost per page down, but using remanufactured HP J4525 ink is the most cost-effective option overall, at much lower prices than the OEM versions.

The HP J4525 inkjet isn't designed for high-volume use, but in a home or small office with a few users, it can handle basic scanning, copying, and faxing quite well, and its text and photo print quality is excellent. Its affordable price is worth the few compromises, like a U-bend paper path and a small display, especially for those on a tight budget.
