Home users sometimes find office machines too expensive, but small office users often find devices designed for the home too limited. The HP OfficeJet J4500 Wireless All-in-One inkjet printer aims to combine serious office features like scanning, copying, and faxing with a compact design and low price that even home users on a budget can handle. Speeds can reach up to 22 pages per minute in color and 28 pages per minute for monochrome, and HP J4500 printer ink is easy and inexpensive to replace.

The J4500 comes with a 16-character LCD screen that is somewhat limited compared to the larger color screens of more expensive models, but it is a decent tradeoff for the low price. The control panel is also streamlined, providing just enough buttons for common tasks, but no so many that it overwhelms novice users.

Wireless support adds the ability to easily share the device among multiple computers, though it does require a USB connection during the setup process, and thankfully, the cable is supplied in the box. A flatbed scanning platen and 20-page automatic document feeder provide flexibility for scanning, copying, and faxing, and the unit can support a wide variety of media types and sizes.

Unlike some machines that refuse to print when printer ink is low, this unit can print with the remaining HP J4500 ink cartridge when necessary. Replacing the OfficeJet J4500 ink is as simple as opening the panel and swapping the OfficeJet J4500 ink cartridges. Prices are reasonable, but using remanufactured HP J4500 ink is always a good alternative to the higher OEM prices.

With some of the best features of an office all-in-one and a home photo inkjet printer, the HP J4500 is a well-rounded machine that will appeal to home and small office users alike. It's hard to beat its low price and affordable operating costs, especially given its numerous features.
