Not only is this machine Windows and Mac compatible, but it also comes with 16 MB of RAM standard. It uses two HP J3640 ink cartridges—black and tricolor. The tricolor tank is filled with cyan, magenta and yellow printer ink.

In the copying mode, 99 duplicates can be made from an original document using HP J3640 ink. It can even reduce or enlarge documents from 25%-400%. Fit-to-page and pre-scan features are both standard as well. Using only the black printer ink, 30 pages per minute can be copied or printed. With the color OfficeJet J3460 ink, up to 24 pages can be printed per minute.

Though it can also scan, the fax portion of this machine is by far the most impressive. The fax has the ability to store up to 100 speed dials. It also has a memory of 200 pages. Busy redial and ring detect also are included. In addition, a usable phone is on the front face of the device.

Paper jams tend to be frequent, and some have argued that the quality itself is quite poor. One of the biggest issues for buyers is that the HP J3640 ink gets used much too quickly and that a separate phone line is needed in order to use the bulk of the faxing options. For its low price, though, it is quite a bargain.
