Released at the turn of the millennium, the HP OfficeJet G55 is a crowd-favorite. This all-in-one inkjet unit has the ability to scan and copy as well as print in color. However, unlike its older brother, the G95, the HP G55 cannot fax and doesn't come with built-in networking capabilities. It is connected via USB or parallel port, and it is compatible with most major operating systems, such as Windows and Mac.

Speed is always important. When it comes to printing, up to 12 pages per minute can be produced using black HP G55 ink and 10 pages per minute are possible with color. The copy machine works at just about the same speed, maxing out at 9 pages per minute when using the color OfficeJet G55 ink. The copier can also make up to 99 duplicates from an original.

There is an optional duplexer for double sided printing and also an optional networking connection. There are two HP G55 ink cartridges, one black and one tricolor. The tricolor tank contains cyan, magenta and yellow printer ink. There are replacement OfficeJet G55 ink cartridges available online new from the original manufacturer and remanufactured versions from third party vendors. There are also high capacity tanks of HP G55 ink available.

The G55 has a monthly duty cycle of 5,000 pages. So, if used to full capacity, replacement printer ink will be needed monthly. The black has a maximum resolution of 600x600 dpi while the color can reach up to 2400x1200 dpi, which is impressive. The scanner has a 24-bit internal color depth, containing millions of colors.

With dimensions of 12.75x5.25x4.37 inches, this inkjet printer is compact and easy to move. Though it can work in an office environment, it is probably more suitable for home offices. The HP OfficeJet G55 is a solid printer that is dependable in any environment.
