HP 3522 Printer Review

The HP Deskjet 3522 e-All-in-One inkjet printer bumps up the feature set from previous models, with better mobile printing support and faster ISO speeds of 8 pages per minute for black and 7.5 pages per minute for color. It has a sharp resolution of 1200 dpi for sharp print quality, and individual HP 3522 printer ink supplies help reduce waste.

Copying and scanning are both straightforward, though a bit limited. The unit lacks an automatic document feeder for multi-page documents, but the flatbed scanner should be enough for most home users. While there are copy buttons on the control panel, scanning is started from the PC software, as the machine lacks a front USB port for connecting storage devices.

The 3522 is a bit larger than previous models in its lineup, measuring 5.8x17.2x12.8 inches, but it is still very light, at 11 pounds with the Deskjet 3522 printer ink installed. The paper tray is a little roomier as well, holding 80 sheets, and alternative media such as index cards and envelopes are supported. In addition to the USB port, the machine connects via Wi-Fi for sharing, and mobile printing is supported via Apple AirPrint or HP's ePrint platform.

The inkjet system uses four separate HP 3522 ink cartridges, which are available in standard and high-capacity versions. The high-capacity color Deskjet 3522 ink cartridges are rated for 750 pages, while the black supply can yield 550 pages. A photo black HP 3522 ink supply can be used for better photo output as well.

The HP 3522 may not have the capacity or speed to keep up with a busy home office user, but it is a great bargain for users with light-duty needs. Its output quality is excellent, and print speeds are adequate for occasional users.
