With a maximum media width of 44 inches, the HP Designjet Z5400 production inkjet printer can handle posters, canvases, maps, and more. It supports two media rolls, includes a hard drive for document storage, and also supports borderless printing. It includes modern features like printing by email, and Designjet Z5400 printer ink is relatively affordable for such a large machine.

The Z5400 has a print speed of 570 square feet per hour, which is rather quick, though higher quality settings will be somewhat slower. At its highest setting, it has an optimized resolution of 2400x1200 dpi, which translates to very sharp images and line drawings. It includes a 320 GB hard drive that enables it to store larger projects for more efficient printing.

Connection options include a standard USB port and a Gigabit ethernet port that can facilitate fast transfers. It also supports HP's ePrint technology so that users can send a document via email to be printed, though this seems a risky proposition for images so large. With a very high printing resolution, solid output speeds, and a reasonable purchase price, the Z5400 is certainly worth considering for buyers who need its large format support. It lacks wireless networking, and its ePrint integration may be more a marketing gimmick than a useful feature, but users won't have to spend too much on HP Z5400 ink, and that is reason enough to give it a look.
