Designed for heavy photo users, the HP Photosmart C5390 is a multifunction inkjet printer that impresses with excellent print quality and fast speeds, but its business-centric features are a bit lacking. Printing speeds are up to 33 pages per minute for black printer ink and 31 pages per minute for color, and Photosmart C5390 ink costs are easy on the budget. The HP C5390 has all the features of a photo-centric model that one would expect. The memory card slots and PictBridge-enabled USB port, combined with the full-color LCD screen make it very easy to preview and print photos quickly. Print quality is excellent, and files can even be burned to a disc with the included CD/DVD drive. Its office functions are limited, however. Copying and scanning are limited to the machine's flatbed scanning surface, and serious users will probably wish for an automatic document feeder. There is no fax functionality included or network port for sharing the machine. Since printer ink is an ongoing cost, it is important to find an economical machine. HP C5390 ink cartridges fit the bill, as some of the lowest-priced in its class. High-capacity Photosmart C5390 ink cartridges can reduce costs even more. While the HP C5390 has some features and advantages that competing models don't, many other inkjet models are less expensive. Lower costs for HP C5390 ink help to negate the difference, and buyers will have to decide for themselves whether its added features are worth the higher price. Overall, the HP C5390 is a very impressive multifunction device with better print quality and speed than most in its class. Its higher upfront price is helped by lower ongoing costs that make it a good value.
