When purchasing a new inkjet printer, it makes sense to look for high quality and fast speeds. Under the hood of the HP Photosmart C3183, all of those things can be found—as well as a plethora of other things. Offering printing, scanning and copying, almost anything a home office could need can be found in this affordable unit. Windows and Mac compatible, the HP C3183 will work with your machine no matter what operating system is used. It doesn't offer faxing capabilities, but its other features are impressive enough.

A USB is used for standard connection, and four memory card slots are offered for direct printing. Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro and Secure Digital are just a few of the many memory cards compatible with the C3183. Wireless printing is not offered, which some may find to be a turnoff, but for most home offices, this will work just fine. Up to 50 copies can be made from an original though, which is pretty good for a unit this small. It weighs only 16.9 pounds, and its size is only 6.4x17.1x15 inches.

Two Photosmart C3183 ink cartridges are needed for standard printing and copying, and these contain both black and color HP C3183 ink. A photo HP C3183 ink cartridge is also offered and will create photo prints with the highest of quality. The main problem with this printer is its low yielding printer ink tanks. The black and color yield 220 pages, and the photo tank yields 130 pages.

Though these printer ink tanks are relatively inexpensive, because of their low yields, owning this inkjet printer could become costly. The best and most affordable way to own the HP C3183 is to buy remanufactured versions of the Photosmart C3183 ink. Remanufactured versions of HP C3183 ink are available from third party vendors, and these will save users a remarkable amount of money—making the HP C3183 one of the most affordable units on the market.
