The HP Photosmart C3170 can produce fast speeds, high quality and excellent resolutions. It offers printing, scanning and copying at an affordable price; however, faxing options are unavailable. Made with home offices in mind, this unit has a 3,000 page monthly duty cycle, and it is Windows and Mac compatible. The upfront price is affordable, as is the cost of replacing the HP C3170 ink.

With the C3170, almost any type of standard paper can be printed on. Envelopes, iron-on transfers, inkjet paper, photo paper, transparencies, plain paper and cards are all supported by the device. It has a sleek, white design and weighs only 16.9 pounds. It also has a small size of only 6.4x17.1x15 inches, making it easy to move around and store wherever needed.

Using the black Photosmart C3170 ink cartridge, up to 30 pages per minute can be copied or printed. If using color, 24 pages per minute is the maximum number that can be produced. For photo printing, it is suggested that users purchase a third photo HP C3170 ink cartridge. The photo printer ink tank is optional, and it only can create about 130 pages per tank. The black and tricolor both have a page yield of 220 pages.

HP C3170 ink isn't incredibly expensive, but due to the low page yields, they will most likely need to be purchased often. If buyers print frequently, they will be buying ink often, which could become a problem. The best way to own this inkjet printer and not go into debt is to buy remanufactured ink from a reliable third party vendor. For a fraction of the OEM price, users can have printer ink with just as high of quality. This is a smart and economical choice, and remanufactured Photosmart C3170 ink will only impress buyers—as will the HP C3170 in general.
