Portable inkjet printers are easy to find—portable inkjet printers designed especially for photo prints aren't. The HP Photosmart A520, though, is an exceptional unit for people worried more about mobility than anything else. Weighing a very light 2.7 pounds it will obviously work for those needing a portable printer. As far as size goes, the dimensions of only 8.9x4.5x5.4 inches makes it a great fit no matter how little room the office is working with. Windows and Mac operating systems are both supported too, meaning that the majority of home users are covered. Those operating under Linux, UNIX or IBM will need to look elsewhere though.

Many printers, like this one, use a one-cartridge printer ink system. To create any document, only the one tricolor HP A520 ink cartridge will be needed. Inside of the Photosmart A520 ink tank, cyan, magenta and yellow printer ink are found. This tricolor tank lasts about 55 pages, but the problem with one-tank systems is that when one color runs out, buyers must replace the entire thing. That means if users run out of cyan HP A520 ink, they will have to replace the other colors too. In the entire life of a printer, this can cause some major waste.

Keep in mind, though, that users don't need to settle for high costing OEM ink. Photosmart A520 ink cartridges come in remanufactured forms from third party vendors. These will last just as long as the OEM HP A520 ink, but they will cost about half the price.
