It is unbelievable how many printers are on the market these days. Hundreds of new inkjet models from various manufacturers come out every year, and the older ones stay in the game for at least 5 years. The HP Deskjet 990c is getting to the point where it is no longer being manufactured. When that happens, new ones are still available until they run out, and then they will drop in price and be sold as used or ‘as is'. The lucky part is that these printers can last for up to 50,000 prints, so even the old ones are going to work like new.
No matter how many years pass, HP 990c ink will still be available online. There will probably always be three options—new, remanufactured and compatible. All will work fine, but the new OEM Deskjet 990c ink cartridges will be the more expensive option. Either way, this printer ink will never stop being available, so as long as the machine is working—it is worth holding on to.
Its speeds are not super fast, but they are a little above average. Using black HP 990c ink, up to 17 pages per minute can be printed. Using the color printer ink, only 13 pages per minute will be produced. The resolutions are exceptional though. The color Deskjet 990c ink renders a max resolution of 2400x1200 dpi, while the black can only reach 600x600 dpi.
With a weight of 15 pounds and dimensions of 17.34x7.72x14.6 inches, this inkjet unit is not too big, but wouldn't be considered portable. It has 8 MB of RAM built in and it compatible with all major operating systems. With two sided printing and a 5,000 page monthly duty cycle, little maintenance will be needed on it, other than purchasing replacement HP 990c ink cartridges.
