The HP Deskjet 9808 comes with support for slightly wider formats for added versatility, and users who want duplexing can choose the 9808d model. Either way, they get speeds of up to 20 pages per minute in color and 30 pages per minute, with a sleek and compact design small enough for home use. Its price tag is a little high, but HP 9808 printer ink is very affordable.

The 9808 certainly isn't as compact as some of HP's smallest models, but it isn't so bulky as to preclude it from home use or a small office. It measures 7.3x22.6x19.7 inches, and it weighs 28.7 pounds (with the Deskjet 9808 ink installed) so it can be set up or moved around by one individual. There are only a few buttons on the control panel, and no preview screen, but there are indicator lights to alert users when the HP 9808 ink is running low.

Speaking of printer ink, the 9808 operates in either 4-color or 6-color modes with optional HP 9808 ink cartridges for photo gray or photo color. While these extra Deskjet 9808 ink cartridges do improve image quality, some users might see the swapping as an unnecessary hassle instead of a benefit.

Wide format support includes sizes up to 13x19 inches, which is impressive for such a compact inkjet machine. The main tray holds 150 sheets, and a rear feed provides a straighter paper path for heavier media without the need for bending, which can damage or curl some media. USB and parallel ports are included, but no wired or wireless networking is included.

It would be easy to see the 9808 as an expensive wide format inkjet, but it's probably more accurate to think of it as a very affordable business machine. Its robust design and reliable output will be a major benefit for a small business or even an individual with specific wide format printing needs.
