The HP Deskjet 970 is a single-purpose inkjet printer with high quality and average speeds. This unit is designed for home offices or very small businesses, even though it lacks networking capabilities. It is compatible with Windows and Mac, as well as most other operating systems. Using the tricolor HP 970 ink, about 2 pages can be printed a minute. Using black printer ink, up to 12 pages can be produced per minute. A 4x6 inch color photo takes about a minute to print.

The average resolution is 600x600 dpi using either Deskjet 970 ink cartridge. However, the color ink seems to run out faster than the black. The reason for this is that if one color is empty, the entire color HP 970 ink cartridge will have to be replaced.
