HP 940 Printer Review

The HP Deskjet 940 printer may be a little outdated, but it is still a quality machine. Though print speeds are a bit slow for this day and age—12 pages per minute with black HP 940 ink and 10 pages per minute with color—the quality exerted is worth the time for small quantity printers. This unit would fit most comfortably in a home office, due to its lack of many standard office features.

With a maximum sheet capacity of 150 pages, home users will find this 17.32x7.72x14.56 inch inkjet printer a little bulky. However, its standard weight of only 12.9 pounds does make it a little more handy, and even with a large footprint, it should fit comfortably onto any desk. It also has a monthly volume of 2,000 pages and is compatible with Mac or Windows operating systems. This model must be plugged into a computer at all times to print.

Two HP 940 ink cartridges are used in this home-office model—tricolor and black printer ink. The tricolor Deskjet 940 ink cartridges have page yield of 450 with a resolution of 2400x1200 dpi. The black printer ink has a page yield of 500—which is very cost effective—and a resolution of 600x600 dpi. Though these inkjet tanks might last awhile, they are quite expensive when they run out. Remanufactured and compatible tanks can be purchased for a lower, more affordable price offering the same great prints for a fraction of the cost.

Reviews of the printer are pretty mixed. Many complain about problems with printer jams and the high consumption and price of Deskjet 940 ink. Another complaint is that the unit is simply too slow compared to others on the market. Other consumers find it to be an easy and reliable model with excellent printing capabilities. All in all, the 940 is an economical choice considering with the low cost of HP 940 ink and durable printheads.
