HP 922c Printer Review

While the HP Deskjet 922c doesn't have fast speeds on its side, it does produce excellent color photos, and its purchase price is impressively low. Up to 9 pages per minute for black and 7.5 pages per minute in color can be printed, but speeds get slower at higher quality settings. High prices for Deskjet 922c printer ink make it an expensive device over the long run, however.

Like many models in its line, the 922c has both a compact frame and a unique fold-up design that reduces its footprint when not in use. The input paper tray can hold a maximum of 100 sheets at once, while the output tray maxes out at 50 sheets. Since both trays are located at the front of the machine, there is the possibility of frequent paper jams, especially with heavier media, thanks to the curved paper path.

When folded out for printing, the device measures 7.72 inches high with a footprint of 17.3x14.6 inches. It weighs around 15 pounds without the HP 922c printer ink installed. Both PCs and Macs are supported, and users have a choice of USB or parallel ports for connecting to a computer. The 2400x1200 dpi resolution for color output is impressive, though text maxes out at 600 dpi.

The system uses two HP 922c ink cartridges: a single black and a single combined tricolor supply. High-capacity Deskjet 922c ink cartridges are available with higher yields, but they are expensive. Instead, users should consider remanufactured HP 922c ink at much lower prices than OEM versions.

For photo printing and occasional text documents, the Deskjet 922c would be a perfectly adequate choice. Buyers who want more than just the basics, however, should probably keep looking. Inkjet models with features like memory card slots and wireless sharing are available for only a bit more in price.
