HP 916c Printer Review

The HP Deskjet 916C is a compact and powerful inkjet photo printer, even if its speeds are a bit slow. It can print at a maximum of 9 pages per minute in black and 7.5 pages per minute in color, though high-quality settings will be much slower. Its fold-up design saves space when it is not in use, but expensive HP 916C printer ink supplies will send some buyers looking for alternatives.

The design of the 916C is quite impressive, as its input and output paper trays can fold up out of the way, reducing its footprint. This can be inconvenient, however, as it requires unloading the trays before folding. When printing, the unit measures 8x17x16 inches, and weighs just 13 pounds. The input paper tray can hold up to 100 sheets at a time.

The control panel is very basic, with a print cancel button, a button for power, and a button for manual paper feeding. It does have an indicator light to alert users that a Deskjet 916C printer ink supply needs replacing, however. Both Mac and PC computers are supported, and the machine can connect via USB or parallel port, but not networking options are available.

The system uses two HP 916C ink cartridges: one black and one tricolor. Unlike some models, the printer will still continue if one of the Deskjet 916C ink cartridges is empty. Replacement prices are high, so users may want to consider remanufactured HP 916C ink as an alternative, for much lower prices.

For basic printing needs, the HP 916C inkjet printer may suffice, and its low price is definitely appealing. Advanced users might find its features a bit lacking, and those who do a lot of printing will probably find its paper capacity limited and the cost of supplies to be too high.
