The HP LaserJet 9040 laser printer is designed for large office environments. It has the speed, functions, and monthly duty cycle to keep up with even the most high-volume offices, and its print quality is excellent.

The HP 9040 laser printer may seem expensive compared to smaller units available on the market, but for the high-volume, busy office environment, its value is immeasurable. Its large 1,000-sheet paper capacity can be easily expanded to a maximum of 3,100 sheets by adding additional optional trays. Its 64 MB of RAM should be more than enough for most print jobs, but it can be expanded to a maximum of 512 MB if necessary. An optional 20 GB hard disk can also be added, which allows users to store documents directly on the unit for archiving or later printing. This is especially convenient for users who must frequently print the same documents over and over.

The unit connects via parallel port, but a number of print server upgrades are available, which allow it to connect directly to an ethernet network, or even connect wirelessly over 802.11b technology. While networking capability out of the box would have been nice, this model offers more flexibility for different situations. The 9040n includes networking, and the 9040dn includes both networking and automatic duplexing.

HP 9040 toner cartridges are very affordably-priced, and each HP LaserJet 9040 toner cartridge has a capacity of 30,000 pages, which results in a low cost per page. Using third-party compatible laser toner cartridges will reduce costs even more, and help get more value from each printer toner cartridge. The compatible HP Laserjet toner is just as reliable as the branded version.

Print quality is excellent across the board. Text and graphics quality are both as impressive as one would expect for the price. Print speed is very fast, at up to 40 pages per minute.

Overall, the HP 9040 is an impressive model that combines fast speeds, excellent print quality, and a number of expandability options that allow it to fit almost any need.
