HP 90 Printer Review

The HP DesignJet 90 is a printer with standard functions that work at slower speeds. This unit weighs over 40 pounds, making it hard to transport and move around. Its large size of 35x33.9 inches causes this device to fit awkwardly on small desks and work spaces. Priced at over $800, this inkjet printer is quite expensive. Although it has a high retail price, the HP 90 doesn't seem to offer any unique or exceptional features that make it worth such a large sum of money.

Cyan, magenta, yellow, light cyan, light magenta and black printer ink make up this device's 6-color ink system. Each color has a separate HP 90 ink cartridges, and manufacturers provide one of each in the box. Having 6 separate tanks will save users money because DesignJet 90 ink cartridges can be replaced individually as a single color runs out.

Black HP 90 ink prints an average of 17.5 pages per minute. Color DesignJet 90 ink produces a maximum of only 11.9 pages per minute. Color HP 90 ink has a high quality resolution of 2400x1200 dpi that produces beautiful photos. Its black printer ink resolution is a satisfactory 1200x600 dpi.

This inkjet printer has a connective USB parallel port and an optional HP Jetdirect port. The box includes 6 printheads, 6 tanks of HP 90 ink, software for both Mac and Windows operating systems and an HP DesignJet Training CD. HP PhotoREt IV Image Enhancement is also an included feature.

Due to its slow printing speeds and low monthly duty cycle, the 90 works best as a personal unit. It has two compatible models, the HP DesignJet 90gp and 90r. The 90gp has a 70 sheet input capacity, and the 90r includes a USB cable in the box, two features that the 90 doesn't have. The HP DesignJet 90's unimpressive functions and expensive price are all good reasons for consumers to consider purchasing other higher-quality products.
