The HP Photosmart 8750 is touted as a professional photo inkjet printer, but it caters more to consumer enthusiasts than professionals, especially with its low price. That is not to say that it does not provide the fast speed and great print quality one would expect from a pro model, however. The cost of printer ink is a bit high, as the 9-color configuration of HP 8750 ink can get a bit pricey.
The design of the machine is wider than most inkjet models, so potential buyers will want to take that into account. It measures 10 inches by 25.3 inches by 24.1 inches and weighs 26 pounds. Unlike many photo models, the 8750 has a very streamlined control panel, offering very little functionality from the unit itself. Nearly every feature must be controlled via software. It does not include the memory card slots and other convenience features offered by more consumer-friendly printers. The focus is on fast speed and excellent quality. The 8750gp and 8750xi are slight variations on the base model that include color calibration and extra ink cartridges.
Print speed is impressive, at up to 19 pages per minute for black and 18 pages per minute for color. Photo speeds will be much slower, however. Paper capacity might be limiting for some users at only 80 sheets, but this further shows that the unit is not designed for everyday office use.
Printer ink is a bit on the expensive side. To achieve the best photo quality, it requires a 9-color configuration of HP 8750 ink cartridges that adds significant costs. Color Photosmart 8750 ink cartridges are arranged in tricolor blocks, which means replacing three colors every time you run out of one. This makes Photosmart 8750 ink costs much higher overall.
While the HP 8750 won't make a good all-around printer for versatile uses, it is great at what it does best. Photo enthusiasts will find its quality very impressive if they don't mind the high prices for HP 8750 ink.
