The HP Officejet Pro 8600 has an intelligent and compact design that makes it the ideal desktop inkjet printer. With a size of only 24x16x8 inches, the machine can fit comfortably in any workspace. The 8600 also has a light weight of less than 30 pounds that makes it easy to move. A monthly duty cycle of around 6,250 prints make it a suitable for home or small office use. Print speeds of up to 35 pages per minute for full-color and black-and-white sheets will allow users to print projects efficiently.

To cut costs and conserve supplies, the 8600 has an optional automatic duplex printing feature that can save up to 50% of paper by printing on both sides of a page. The media handling options include an input tray that can store up to 250 sheets, a multimedia input tray and a 150-sheet capacity output bin. A number of different media types are supported including inkjet paper, photo paper, envelopes and greeting cards. The printer can produce full-color projects on specialty photo paper with a maximum resolution of up to 4800x1200 dpi using color HP 8600 ink. Black-and-white documents print with a crisp resolution of 1200x1200 dpi using black Officejet Pro 8600 ink.

The unit uses four separate HP 8600 ink cartridges that hold cyan, magenta, yellow and black printer ink. To get users started, the manufacturer provides a set of Officejet Pro 8600 ink cartridges. When replacement printer ink is needed, there is a standard and high-capacity option available. The standard-capacity can yield 700 pages each, while the high-yield HP 8600 ink can produce as many as 1,500 prints.
