The HP Deskjet 845 is a basic color printer with high-quality graphics and crisp text. It is an older unit and has been surpassed by years of new technologies, but it is a hidden treasure. The 845 set the standard for color accuracy and precision and can still compete in that category. However, it lacks the speed required to have relevance in an inpatient world. For consumers looking for a reliable and solid inkjet printer for under $100, though, the HP 845 is by far the best option.

There are two HP Deskjet 845 ink cartridges as well as two printheads. One tank is only black printer ink, while the other is made up of cyan, magenta and yellow. The black HP 845 ink can deliver a resolution of 600 dpi, while the tri-color ink can get all the way up to 600x1200 dpi. These stats are impressive for an outdated machine.

Users with a higher volume of printing may get frustrated with the low capacity of the Deskjet 845 ink tanks. Especially with a tri-color tank because when one color runs out, the rest are rendered useless. The color HP 845 ink cartridge can only yield 410 pages, while the black can reach 500. Due to the low capacity of the printer ink and the 1000 page per month duty cycle, a small business would not benefit from it, thus making it a better option for low-volume home users on a budget.

The Deskjet 845 is compatible with Mac and Windows, connects only via USB port and has a manual duplex option. The input tray holds 100 sheets while the output tray can only handle 50. It features a 2 MB RAM, helpful software and quick-dry HP 845 ink. Once a leader of the pack, this inkjet printer has fallen off a bit, but is definitely still in the race.
