However, businesses that need to produce maps or posters on a regular basis will need this machine to produce the best documents possible. It will make a huge footprint in the office, though, because of its 87.2x33.1x9.1 inch size. And don't even think about lifting this unit—it weighs a shockingly heavy 296.8 pounds. The DesignJet can connect via parallel or ethernet port, and it comes with a touch screen and LCD screen built in. Windows, Mac, Linux, IBM and Solaris operating systems are all compatible with this monstrous unit.

To operate this piece of machinery, four HP 815 ink cartridges will be needed. These are filled with cyan, yellow, magenta and black printer ink. Each of the color tanks of DesignJet 815 printer ink will last users 1400 pages, while the black can last 1750 pages. With yields like this, most offices probably won't need to replace HP 815 ink too terribly often.

It may seem like the DesignJet 815 ink cartridges are a little pricey, but remanufactured versions of the printer ink are available from third party vendors. Using remanufactured HP 815 ink will not only save users money, but the remanufactured replacement printer ink also exerts the same high quality and lasts just as long as the OEM products.

The best thing about the 815 has got to be versatility. It can print on heavy-weight paper, coated paper, photo paper, tracing paper, continuous forms, matte film, vinyl, satin paper, translucent paper, banners, cleaning sheets, canvas paper, vellum paper and bond paper. Using these papers, resolutions as high as 2400x1200 dpi can be reached. For large offices with large printing needs, the HP DesignJet 815 might be the best way to go.
