The HP PhotoSmart 8030 provides an assortment of connectivity options like a full-speed USB port, a PictBridge for photos and Bluetooth, making it a flexible personal inkjet printer. The 8030's media handling options include a main input tray that can store up to 100 sheets of paper, 15 envelopes, up to 40 cards, 20 sheets of labels and up to 25 transparencies, iron-on transfers or photo paper. It also has an additional dedicated photo cassette tray that can hold up to 20 sheets of photo paper.

The 8030 can work at quick rates no matter what type of document is being produced or which printer ink is being used, printing at a speed of up to 30 pages per minute for black-and-white documents and 24 pages per minute for those using a wide gamut of color. The unit can also create photos at fast speeds, printing 4x6 inch images at a rate of up to 27 seconds. Full-color graphics and images can print with a sharp maximum resolution of 4800x1200 dpi using HP 8030 ink, ensuring that each project is lab quality. It can also produce sharp text documents with a resolution of up to 1200x1200 dpi using black PhotoSmart 8030 ink.

In addition to the black and tricolor HP 8030 ink cartridges, this unit's color printer ink system also offers optional photo color and photo gray printer ink. As made evident by the relatively low-capacity PhotoSmart 8030 ink cartridges, the unit is designed to benefit home users.
