The HP Photosmart 7960 ink printer costs around $300 and gives a solid bang for your buck – not the least because it is an 8-ink color inkjet device. It measures 20.9 x 15.1 x 7.6 in and weighs an impressive 16.8 lbs. The device demands a fair amount of space and a sturdy base. The 2.5-inch color LCD display enables editing of images and also PC-less printing. You can use this printer with both PC and Mac. Connectivity is via two USB ports. The five media card slots on this printing machine support CompactFlash Type I and II, SecureDigital/Multimedia Card, Smart Media and Memory Stick.

The HP Photosmart 7960 ink cartridge printer can deliver 21 ppm for black and 16 ppm for color prints. Maximum resolutions for monochrome and color prints are 1200 dpi x 1200 dpi and 4800 dpi x 1200 dpi, respectively. The eight colors used by the machine are supplied by the Black, Tricolor, Photo, and Photo Gray cartridges. The respective cartridge model numbers are HP 56, HP 57, HP 58, and HP 59. One drawback with this machine is that if you run out of one color, you cannot print.

The input tray on the Photosmart 7960 can hold up to 100 sheets of plain paper and 25 sheets of photo paper. You can print on a variety of media types such as labels, banners, envelopes, photo paper, plain paper, glossy paper, transparencies, and iron-on transfers. The machine supports optional duplexing. The software bundle includes the memories disc creator and the photo and imaging gallery. Automatic width detectors help regulate print speeds as per media size. Low ink detection and automatic ink cartridge alignment are other auto features available on this printer.
